Fayetteville – Cumberland Parks and Recreation started a lacrosse program in 2012 with over 85 kids. Our program grew to 180 kids.
By the spring of 2016, Terry Sanford High School and Jack Britt high school established Fayetteville's first public school lacrosse teams. Terry Sanford High School fielded its first varsity girls lacrosse team and Jack Britt fielded not only a varsity girls lacrosse team but a full JV boys and a full varsity boys team. Lacrosse is growing in Fayetteville! Our vision is to introduce lacrosse to our 10 high schools in Cumberland County.
This is an exciting and fast-paced sport. I wish lacrosse had been in Fayetteville when I was in middle and high school. I would have definitely played!
I would like to highlight some lacrosse players for making history as they were not only part of the first public school teams established here in Cumberland County but also scored the very first goals at their perspective high schools. The very first goal made at home and away for the Terry Sanford High School Varsity Girls team was made by (Lainey Corzette). The first goal made both at home and away for Jack Britt varsity Girls lacrosse was (Meagan Leach). Both of these girls started their lacrosse history with (FCPR) Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation. Making history on the Jack Britt High school varsity Boys side was Vincent Luna first goal at (home) and Josh Brown first goal (away).
Cape Fear and Pine Forest High Schools are now looking at establishing lacrosse teams.
